  1. How to deal with fiber supplements (for constipation)? Doesn’t fiber take up a lot of total carbs? I usually take psyllium husks powder with lots of water every morning. But this is a lot of total carbs! What to do?

    1. @Adapt Your Life Ok, thanks!

    2. Lana Black try milk of magnesia 👍

  2. Excellent!

  3. Hi Doc, I have high blood pressure and take irbesartan. I have been tracking my pottasium from food via MFP. Only get around 1,000 mgs/day from food + 80 mgs from my multi-vitamin. Been Keto for 4-1/2 months, lost 60 lbs. I wonder if my BP could be staying high from low potassium? My potassium in Sept when i began the program was 4.0. Im going to go get it checked again. At what measurement would you suggest supplementing? (if at all)

  4. I eat a lot of spinach and other foods with potassium and have been tracking to see if I’m getting the recommended amount. It is very hard to get 4700/day. What I find baffling is that it would seem most people in general are not getting that amount per day, but we are not seeing serious deficiency issues across the population. On Keto, I have increased salt and was already supplementing magnesium but there are times when I clearly need more potassium. I know how to supplement that and am very careful since it can be dangerous to have too much, but it can also be dangerous to have too little. I just really want to know if people need 4700/day then why aren’t we seeing problems all over?

    1. Adapt Your Life Thank you! Yes that does help.

    2. Hi Kathleen James, many folks do not in fact have deficiencies even though we are told what we should be eating. Our bodies are very complex. Before one starts supplementing, one should test to see if in fact there is a deficiency and if so, what to supplement with. Following a daily recommendation will not tell the full story. I hope this helps.

  5. Get you, vlogging, well I think that’s what the young hip folks, call it!

  6. I had had been told how carbs were tied into weight gain and also generally to steer clear of carbohydrate, on the other hand had never considered using them to lose weight. The number one idea behind the four cycle fat loss strategy is for you to train your whole body to melt fat for energy instead of carbohydrate. It’s founded on scientific research into the elevated carb dietary habits of the Japanese and also their incredible long life expectancy. The research would suggest that it’s their substantial carb-cycling day-to-day diet method that could help to keep on being in good health into old age with a minimal body mass index (lesser incidence of obesity).Read way more here

  7. Great information

  8. If you are on a junk-food (a.k.a. ‘keto’) diet you definitely won’t be getting enough nutrients.

    1. Results matter. If you can find a practice that has helped a larger number of people no longer be Obese than Dr. Eric Westman, please refer us there.

    2. Dinar AndFriends ok you win 🦋

    3. I don’t base my conclusions on marketing or ‘what is trendy’ I base them on medical and scientific evidence. The reason there ‘hasn’t been a shift in thinking’ is because the evidence hasn’t changed. All that’s changed is that a few faddists have attempted to push high-fat diets based on no evidence at all.

If you can provide the tiniest scrap of scientific evidence that a high-fat diet doesn’t cause long-term health effects then please show us. If all you have is hot air and empty accusations we’re not interested.

    4. Dinar AndFriends I presume you are the type that still thinks that whole grains and low fat yoghurt is healthy. The reason that there hasn’t been a shift in thinking to fat culturally is grain and sugar makes a huge profit for the food industry , its cheap and plentiful and extremely fattening. So the food industry demonise fat. The body converts essential fats into longer chain polyunsaturated fats to serve important cognitive functions . 5. At the very least, he should take the trouble to read the scientific literature. I haven’t seen a single scientific reference in this video: all I can see is an old man wandering about aimlessly in the woods.

Conversely, here is a paper written by people who actually do understand the subject:

    2. Hi Stuart Pierce, we believe in using supplements if you are deficient and not taking taking them as a blanket cover.

  13. Thank you for providing, yet another, well-informed video. I came to your channel after watching ‘Go Keto With Casey’ who I believe follows your methodology and its been a life-changer for me. What I appreciate the most is that you come across as such a caring individual with a real interest in people’s health – with no ‘added’ agenda.

  14. What a beautiful spot! Would you do more talks from that location?

  15. Dr. Westman is the man!

  16. Hi Dr. Westman 😀 thank you so much for all the knowledge you share with us. I have taken 1200 milligrams of calcium daily for many years in fear of osteoporosis but I’ve learned recently that it can cause problems with the heart. what are your thoughts?

    1. It will increase your risk of CVD by about 30%. The ideal intake is about half that:

If you eat enough green vegetables you won’t need to take any calcium supplements.

    2. I have the same concern Cathy. I stopped taking calcium but my Dr. wants me on it.

  17. My Hero thanks again

  18. Love ya Doc – THX !!

  19. You are right. I do take.a couple things because I for now a diabetic. My sugar went from 6.1 to 5.7. I lost a little weight and switched mepy meds. Thank you for all your help.

  20. I am Not a Dr…But I was taking several Supplements and my Dr approved them,,,One day I went for a routine check-up,,,Dr says you appear jaundice,,,,So she told me to stop All supplements and had my blood tested every other day for 2 weeks,,,,Liver panel was out of whack at the time,,,Within the testing period Liver panel came back to normal,,,,So if you take supplements you may want to get your liver panels every now and then,,,, I now take no supplements and don’t intend to ever take any …. Supplements May cause more harm than good,,,,My grandparents gardened ,,,preserved thier food,,,had chicken and lots of eggs,,,lived to be in thier 90s and had good health,,,and Never used supplements,,,So I try to eat good whole foods in moderation,,,Best Regards

  21. Love you Dr. Westman. Just had my gallbladder removed yesterday because of a suspicious polyp. Prior cancer history. I want to continue Keto and intermittent fasting. How soon before I start adding fat back into my diet? Thank you so much for your caring about people.
