Toxins in Everyday Household Products with Anne Steinemann PhD

Toxins in Every Day Household Products Anne Steinemann PhD. Radio Host, Lynn Argent of Living in a Chemical Soup.

“Fragranced consumer products seem to be a major source of problems and adverse affects… So, I wondered what was in all of these products, causing all of these adverse health affects. The health affects people have told me about were such things as headaches, breathing difficulties, dizziness, asthma attacks, seizures and even loss of consciousness. I’ve witnessed people lose consciousness and have seizures around exposures to things like air fresheners or dyer sheets” shares Dr. Steinemann.

Join her for a discussion about chemicals that create fragrances in everyday household and personal care products such as cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, fabric softener, dryer sheets, shampoo, soap, deodorant and more. A serious issue for those reporting adverse reactions (Environmental Illness, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Chemical Injury, Toxic Encephalopathy).

  1. I am doing a presentation on invisible disabilities next month for girl guides. Id love peoples suggestions on sites to use

  2. I just noticed this video is 8 years old. There is a sign up at the UC near my home that says no perfumes are allowed. Thank God!

    1. That’s fantastic!

  3. Thank you for helping us. The criminals that are poisoning humanity should be kept behind bars for crimes against humanity and life on this beautiful amazing planet.

  5. ORGANIC
Organic, just read again wikipedia, doesn’t say alot about how healthy or pure the product is. Arsenic, Aluminium, volcanic soil (mercury) is all organic and can be disturbing to your system, more than some synthetic compound, not containing the element you are sensitive to, is able to do. To the healthy soil you have to add healthy water and air to get a healthy product. So please, you can not generalize and definitely not with a word, that isn’t defined close enough to be a parameter one can count on. ‘All natural or organic colors’ doesn’t say a lot, because iron, sulfur, mercury, aluminium and all other elements of the periodic table are natural and organic pigments. That is the reason I teach my patients to test for themselves, to be able to avoid the chemical element, they are sensitive to.

  6. You have to understand the difference between sensitivity and toxicity. If you are sensitive to mercury, your body reacts to the exposure of each single molecule of mercury from inhalation, ingestion or transdermally and disturbs your order of your system, especially influences the predisposed weak spots of your system (skin, immune system, joint fluid, etc.).

Mercury-sensitivity and ApoE4, Boyd Haley PhD explains why the apolipoprotein-4 (APOE-4) genotype represents a genetic susceptibility to mercury toxicity .
In 1997, APO-E4 was identified as a significant risk factor for early onset of Alzheimer’s with APO-E2 being identified as protective against AD. [18] Several subsequent papers failed to clarify the reason. APO-E has 299 amino acids with different ratios of cysteine and arginine at position 112 and 158. APO-E2 has 2 cysteine’s, apo-E3 one cysteine and one arginine, and APO-E4 two arginine’s.[19]As arginine, unlike cysteine, lacks the sulphydryl (SH) groups to potentially bind bivalent metals such as mercury, lead, copper or zinc, it would be logical to suspect the possibility of increased metal accumulation in those chronically exposed individuals who had not inherited APO-E2. Godfrey 2003 found there was a statistically significant increase in adverse effects in those patients having APO-E4/4 and APO-E 3/4 where those patients were chronically exposed to mercury. Godrey went on to explain why this occurs:

According to Saunders, the underlying reason for the Apo-E-associated differences in AD susceptibility remains a mystery. However, a logical biochemical explanation has been proposed by Pendergrass and Haley, based on the different amino-acid configurations of the three ApoE.

isomers and their potential relevance to mercury elimination. Only E2 (with two cysteine -SH groups), and to a lesser extent E3 (with one –SH group), are able to bind and remove mercury from the brain and cerebrospinal fluid. This would oppose accumulation of mercury which is reported to be causal for the unique brain lesions that typify the AD brain including neurofibrillary tangles.

If you are not disturbed by this vibration or frequency of mercury, your body is able to take care of all other toxins (Arsenic, Aluminum, Meds, Alcohol, Pesticides, Mycotoxins, etc., not in a toxicological dose), you are getting exposed to and your body is able to use compensatory pathways to make up weaknesses (genetic), If disturbed, your body is not able to do this and will even react uncontrolled , irrational, dysautonomic (allergic). Other patients are sensitive to Aluminum, Fluoride, Palladium, Iridium, Indium, Gold, Titan, Silicium, Formaldehyde and react to the vibration of this particular element and not to mercury. The word ‘Multiple Chemical Sensitivity’ should be individually narrowed down to the one or seldom two chemical elements. The patient is sensitive to a product (fragrance, food, cosmetics, etc.), because it contains, in trace amounts, the chemical element, and this can vary from charge to charge.

  7. Too many people suffering MCS are shut up and shut down when they approach a doctor/ friend/ family and sectioned for ‘appearing mentally ill’ (Under the Victorian Mental Health Act & other Acts in Australia, you do not need to be a harm to self or others. There needs only be that the person ‘appears to be mentally ill’ and that the diagnosing Dr believes that there will be a ‘deterioration in health if left untreated’. ) Given that there are no definitive tests for MCS or Mental Illness, such as a blood-test, why do Governments Legislate FORCE upon people with MCS that get mentally-illed and subjected to further harm, not only through forced injections of the chemicals that are making them suffer, but hospital air-conditioners containing propylene glycol as a steriliser, and, food that contains high levels of preservatives, along with cleaning products? It’s time for these harmful laws to be changed. MCS is very real and physical. Thank you for this post, really appreciate the work you’ve done.

  8. I have toxic encephalopathy due to a coworker’s abusive use of Ralph Lauren Big Pony #4. I was exposed to the fragrance 8 hours per day and 5 days per week at work for 2 years as my health disintegrated. My cells were oxygen and hydration starved, digestion shut down, arthritis set in, migraines are chronic, joint pain is excruciating, sleepless nights, mind fog, memory problems, breathing issues, bone cysts, ovary cysts, and so much more. Would it be possible for me to get a short letter from Dr. Steinemann explaining the connection?

    1. We are so sorry to hear about all you have been through! Unfortunately, Dr. Steinemann would be unable to provide such a letter. However, you may take a look at our website, Cleaner Indoor Air. We have pamphlets and handouts that quote Dr. Stenemann’s work, as well as other resources. Be sure to check out JANN. They have great information on chemical fragrances in the workplace in respect to accommodations. http://www.CleanerIndoorAir.org

  9. I wander if fibromyalgia is linked 🙁 I cleaned and used chemicals for years and it came in contact with my skin many times though I tried to avoid it.

    1. FM/MCS/IBS/CFS/migraines are comordid conditions.

    2. These chemicals are linked to fibromyalgia.i know of someone who was cured of it ..if you want to learn more ..email mutiplemoms@gmail.com

  10. You Go Anne! It will be linked at facebook.com/pages/Fresh-air-for-all-Environmental-Inhibition-An-indoor-environment-case/137389693097385

    Best regards from Annelie

  11. You Go Anne!

    Best regards from Annelie

  12. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS GREAT VIDEO. SHORT AND PACKED WITH RELEVANT INFO. GOOD ON YOU. POSTING IT IN A SEC.

  13. Incredible job… thanks so much for understanding and posting… been suffering alone and in silence for 14 years…

  14. I am amazed that there are no comments yet!

Luckily, my wife learned about sensitivities and intolerances and now has developed a way for anyone to make an Intolerance Inventory and discover all the things they are intolerant of.

@Lynn, thanks for hosting this great interview.

@Anne, thanks for finding this path for our understanding.
